to Wellness In Motion. My name is Robin Trainer Dodd, and those of you who know me, also know the last decade of my life has been quite the journey. For those of you who do not, let me clarify.
I am a former professional ballet dancer, Pilates instructor, and pre-professional ballet instructor with an intense passion for movement. In 2009, however, my life took an unforeseen turn, and it became necessary for me to turn all of those years of movement training into something that would allow me to support my four incredible children on my own. Enter VCU / graduate school and Doctor of Physical Therapy degree. By 2014, I had graduated, and began my first job as a physical therapist working with the geriatric population in a skilled nursing environment. In 2016, I moved to outpatient physical therapy and began working on a manual therapy certification. All the while, I have missed my dancers and my Pilates peeps.
Wellness In Motion is a culmination of all of my training and an avenue to teach movement that is "smarter not harder." It is my goal to train my students to find the most effective functional movement patterns in order to maintain strength, balance, and mobility regardless of age or fitness level. Classes are designed to challenge the entire body while allowing exploration and reintegration of functional movement patterns lost due to injury and aging processes.
I look forward to working with you and sharing my passion for movement.

Sometimes all it takes to get it right is one small touch of a caring hand.

50 years of movement training experience goes into each and every class that is taught. Classes combine the movement science behind the work of Joseph Pilates, Moshe Feldenkrais, and Institute of Physical Arts, as well as, the worlds of ballet and modern dance to create a movement experience that allows your body to learn or relearn the most efficient mobility patterns in order to prevent injury, increase muscle tone, decrease joint pain, and to maintain the highest level of functional mobility for lifetime fitness in spite of Father Time.
Relearning efficient movement patterns may seem like an overwhelming task. That's why care is given to breaking activities into core components, moving through each slowly and methodically, changing verbal and tactile cues until you have a successful experience.
